Stephanie Metz, Sculptor

The other day I came across an amazing sculptor, working an a medium that is unusual, for fine art anyway... Felt is usually the purview of crafters and preschoolers, but Stephanie Metz has elevated it to high art. Here's an example of her felt sculptures:

This piece is called "Saber Tooth." It's 12" H x 7" W x 10.5" D and it's made of felt. She doesn't use molds; she's doing this strictly with a felting needle. I've seen work done with a felting needle, but it's usually in the form of a decorative flower for a hat, etc. I always love it when someone takes a technique and moves it in a new direction. I'll definitely be interested to see what this artist does next!
